The lead-acid battery, a 19th-century invention predating the concerns of global warming and recycling, stands as the world’s most successfully recycled commodity item. The lead metal supply chain is therefore robust and resilient, setting a remarkable precedent for successful resource management. What will it take for the lithium-ion battery supply chain – with its more complex needs and reliance on critical metals – to replicate this success?

In this presentation, we delve into innovative chemistry that challenges conventional battery waste management. We touch on our flagship technology, REGENERATE, which aims to innovate the supply chain by enhancing performance and reducing environmental footprints. We also explore how battery upcycling can drive the lithium battery metals supply chain – touching briefly on our goals to upcycle NMC hydroxides and transform carbon-containing waste into anodes for lithium-ion batteries.
