Decarbonisation Execution in Stainless Steel

The metals industry is talking about recycling and decarbonisation in order to meet the requirements of future low-carbon metals. In Carbon Steel, Hydrogen as reductant is the key solution for decarbonization. In aluminum, circularity through scrap usage is the main contributor to greener solutions. In both industries, those solutions are enabling the steps towards more sustainable productions, but what about a future with truly green metals, without carbon emissions and without offsetting?

The only way to achieve this is to analyse all carbon emissions (Scopes 1,2&3) and to create a carbon reduction path, a development strategy for carbon free technologies and finally as a result a carbon abatement cost curve that is showing us the way how to execute in an affordable way (for Outokumpu and its customers) towards carbon neutrality.

We cannot wait with decarbonisation because it is time to act and all the time we wait, will make decarbonisation more costly and less affordable for consumers.
